For nearly 100 years, Benjamin News has been a distributor of books and magazines in the Northeast and Northwest United states, and throughout Canada. We handle several thousands of titles of every stripe and variety. We are one of the largest distributor groups in North America delivering millions of magazines to thousands of retail locations from small corner stores to huge chain discount super centers every week.
Traditionally, the magazine distribution business has been primarily geographic in nature. Developed into its current form by the 1950's, a particular region may have supermarkets, urban corner stores, and suburban Discount Merchandisers, but they are all serviced by the same company, often by the same person on the same delivery truck. In this older distribution model, all available magazine titles are brought in large quantities every week to every store and very large quantities of magazines remain unsold and end up being returned and destroyed- one can easily see the inherent costs both economic and environmental of such a system.
These inefficiencies led us to create Benjamin News Direct, which is focused on what we believe to be a significantly superior business model to the traditional truck-based delivery of magazines and which allows for the prospect of significant growth in the category of print media.
In the direct to retail model employed by Benjamin News Direct, magazine programs are specifically engineered to fit the specific needs of a specific retailer. In this way, titles are more thoughtfully selected to be specifically targeted to the shopper and copies are more tightly controlled to increase sell through performance. Programs designed this way present a path for retailers which have never before carried magazines to capitalize on the real benefits of the category.

Although there are many subtle permutations, the basics of a Benjamin News
Direct magazine program are as follows:
- All stores will be provided fixtures.
- Shipments of magazines will be sent to each store, but if it is preferred, we can use any customers existing DC infrastructure
- Upon arrival at the store, the old magazines are taken down and the new
magazines are put up on the fixture. - That's it -- we truly believe the key to the success of a new program is
simplicity of execution and absolute minimum of handling.
